Young Child Semester Two
At this age, your child learns music best when they are actively engaged in making music! Songs and activities that encourage solo singing, concepts for music reading and writing, and songs that are fun and  familiar which call your child into joyful participation are among the exciting ways we playfully immerse your little musician into the joyful world of music making.

Beethoven is our featured composer as we listen to "Symphony No. 6." Other listening selections include "The William Tell Overture" by Rossini, "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi,"  "Peter and the Wolf" by Prokofiev and "The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra" by Britten.

Concepts we'll learn in Semester 2 are staccato/legato, piano/forte, crescendo/decrescendo,  graphic notation and reading the traditional rhythms of quarter and eighth notes and quarter rest and staff reading notes  f, g, a, c and d.

Children NEW to Young Child are welcome to join Semester 2.

In Young Child Semester 1, your child develops instrument-playing skills with the introduction of the glockenspiel. Through creative learning activities, you'll be astonished as your child begins to read music notes and to create musical compositions - tangible accomplishments that instill positive emotions about their own musicality. Mozart is the featured composer as we listen to many of his compositions. Other listening repertoire includes "The Clock" by Haydn,  "The Aviary" from "Carnival of the Animals" by Saint-Saens and the percussion and brass families and their individual instruments. Your child will discover a new knowledge of aural skills, pitch and tone, reading and writing music using the glockenspiel, while further developing their singing voice.

Young Child Semester 3 is the third semester of this exceptional program. Children now receive a two-string dulcimer and learn to play songs. Children continue with the glockenspiel, playing melodies and using new mallet-crossing techniques. Tchaikovsky is our featured composer this semester as we listen to many selections from the "Nutcracker." In Semester 3, children musically explore the various cultures of Appalachia, sailors, Native Americans, African-Americans, New Orleans jazz and ballet, tap and jazz dancing. Concepts in Semester 3 are added staff notes b and low d, Half Rest, Whole Note, Half Note, Dotted Half Note; Three-and Four-Beat Meter; improvisation and composition. Students must have completed Semester 2 before signing up for Semester 3.

All family members and caregivers attend the special Family Sharing Time during the last 10 minutes of class.
